How Should You Clean Jacuzzi Tub Jets Without Spraying Water on the Floor?

Keep the water above the jets, confirm the drain is fully closed, and monitor the water level while the jets run. Before adding any cleaner, confirm the permitted product, amount, and cleaning cycle for your exact tub. If water escapes onto the floor or the tub will not hold water, the fixture needs evaluation rather than assumptions about the drain or jets.

The short answer
  • Keep the water level above the jets while they are operating so water can circulate through the lines.
  • Confirm the drain is fully closed and monitor the water level while the jets run.
  • Before adding a cleaner, confirm the permitted product, amount, and cleaning cycle for your exact tub.
  • Do not assume bleach is suitable for every tub or that a cleaning cycle resolves a water-quality concern.

Why should the water stay above the jets?

Keep enough water in the tub to cover the jets while they are running. Once the water level drops below the jets, they can pull air instead of continuing to circulate water through the lines.

Check the water level before starting and continue to monitor it while the jets operate. Do not assume that the water level or drain position will remain unchanged.

Why should you check the drain before running the jets?

Confirm the drain is fully closed and monitor the water level while the jets run. A drain that is not fully shut can allow the water level to fall.

Water spraying onto the floor can create a fixture concern and affect nearby flooring. If water is escaping in a way you cannot explain, stop the cycle rather than continuing to run the jets.

Can you use bleach to clean Jacuzzi jet lines?

Before adding any product, confirm the permitted cleaner, amount, and cleaning cycle for your exact tub. Check the tub's care instructions and the product label rather than assuming bleach is suitable.

Do not assume that a cleaning cycle resolves a water-quality concern. Material coming from a jet line, visible scale, or an unfamiliar odor can have different causes, so a general cleaning tip is not a diagnosis of the tub or its water.

When should you ask for plumbing help?

If the tub is leaking, draining when it should hold water, or sending water onto the floor, describe what you observed and when it happens. A plumbing evaluation can identify where the water is escaping rather than assuming the drain or jets are the cause.

Share the tub's make or model, any cleaning product already used, and the behavior you noticed. That information can help us understand the active fixture concern.

        • Whether the tub loses water while the drain appears closed.
        • Whether water escapes only when the jets are running.
        • What you saw coming from the jets, without assuming what it is.
        • Any cleaner or product already added to the tub.

0:00Okay, okay. So sometimes things don't go exactly as you planned. All right, so here's what I'm working on today. So in this jacuzzi tub- Can you believe that? Can you believe we don't have a jacuzzi? When water sits inside those jacuzzi jets for a prolonged amount of time and no cleaning's been done or anything like that, you can get scaly water, sometimes bacteria and stuff gets built up, and then you've got stuff coming out of those jacuzzi jets.

0:24So, um, the way that, the way that I've been cleaning it and the way that you can clean it is you get some bleach, you cor- pour bleach into a, a bath, run those jacuzzi jets. Just repeat this cycle over and over again till you get the lines clean. So, um, something you wanna do is make sure that the water line does not go below the jacuzzi jets. Now, a lot of you are thinking, "Well, that's a given." I thought so too. I thought I was good, and I came back in here, and I had water spraying on

0:49the floor. And so what I found out was that the drain wasn't totally shut. So anyway, if you're cleaning your jacuzzi tub, you're running the stuff through the jets, make sure your drain's shut all the way, water's covering those jets, so that water is not just jetting out of your bathtub. No one wants water on the floor. It's bad for your floors. All right. Anyway, that's my plumbing tip for the day. Stay cool, guys.
