HVAC Maintenance Plans: What to Compare

A maintenance plan is more than a reminder on the calendar. Compare the visits, equipment checks, scheduling, and current benefits with a one-time tune-up before enrolling.

The short answer
  • A tune-up can be a one-time visit; a plan arranges recurring service.
  • Ask which equipment and checks are included.
  • Confirm today’s benefits instead of relying on an older promotion.
  • Discuss maintenance requirements for your particular equipment.

One visit or recurring care?

A one-time tune-up addresses a scheduled visit. A maintenance plan creates an ongoing service arrangement, with visits and any additional benefits defined by the plan you choose. That distinction is the starting point for deciding what suits your household.

If you want help keeping service on the calendar, ask how the recurring visits are arranged. If you need a single visit, ask what that appointment covers. Neither choice should be made from the word maintenance alone; the actual work matters.

Maintenance membership pricing and included visits

Our June 2026 recording described the maintenance membership at $300 per year or $25 per month. The plan discussed included two visits, one in spring and one in fall, a water-heater flush, and a 20% discount on HVAC and plumbing repairs.

Those are the price and benefits described in that recording. Plan terms and pricing may have changed, so confirm the current membership details before enrolling.

      Compare the work included

Ask whether the plan covers your cooling equipment, heating equipment, or both, and how the visits are organized. Discuss the filters, coils, and other checks that apply to your system, including which tasks belong with a professional.

Our maintenance examples show why getting trained eyes on a system is useful: dirt, neglected filters, and other conditions can be discussed before you are left trying to understand them during a breakdown. Ask for the findings and recommendations after the visit so you know what was checked and what may need attention.

        Confirm the current benefits

Some plans include benefits such as scheduling priority or discounts. Ask what the particular plan offers now, how those benefits apply, and whether any related services are included. A price or perk mentioned in an older recording is not a substitute for today’s agreement.

Compare those terms with the way you use service. The useful question is whether the current plan gives you a clear, workable arrangement for caring for your equipment, not whether a past promotion sounds attractive.

          Keep care and coverage clear

Ask what maintenance your installed equipment requires and how to document the work. Review the applicable warranty terms rather than assuming every manufacturer uses the same visit schedule or that buying any plan automatically satisfies every requirement.

Keep maintenance findings separate from a promise about future performance. Use the visit to understand your equipment’s present condition and the next steps the technician recommends. If something still concerns you, ask for an explanation before deciding on additional work.

any company worth their salt will offer a maintenance plan of some sort, whether it's one visit or two visits. What maintenance is required and do you offer service plans? This is a great question for a homeowner to ask. What maintenance is required? Well, that is the default of the manufacturer. It doesn't mean that it has to be seen twice a year. So, once for this and once for that. It can be done at the same time, but a manufacturer states that in order for the equipment warranty to be valid, an HVAC professional has to maintain it at least once a year. Now, the second half of this question is, do you offer service plans? that company is interested in creating a legacy brand uh like we are, you know, I I don't want to just sell you one HVAC system. I want to be here for your next home and your kids' home and and so on and so forth. We've been in business for 37 years and plan to be here for many more, God willing. We're in the relational business and to me, if a company doesn't offer service plans, it tells me that they're not interested in that relationship.

So when one part struggles, the whole system struggles and if the whole system is struggling, it can lead to a lot of different things like uneven temperatures, premature breakdowns, and can really even damage the system in a way that cost you a lot of money to fix. That's why we really advocate for maintenance. You know, getting eyes on your system by a professional so that you can spot issues early and help reduce any unnecessary costs for you and your family. you can prolong the life of your current system just by regular maintenance having conversations with homeowners about replacing uh you know how often does maintenance come into that conversation pretty often um if you're not maintaining your system you can have a rocket ship of a system but if it's not maintained and your filters are dirty and your coils dirty it's not going to be able to do its job efficiently at all and so um you know it's the life of your system is really contingent upon how well it was maintained for for the time of period that it was in it was that it was in the house um so I've been on systems that are really pass du and by P du I mean like they're like 20 years old and so but they look great and that's why the system has lasted that long just because it was maintained so well they changed their filters kept them clean kept the coils clean had a maintenance agreement to where the a technician was coming out and cleaning the coil well

What's the difference between just a tune-up and an AC maintenance? And really the difference is is an AC tune-up is just a one-time deal. The homeowner calls us out, we come out, we do a clean and check, and that's it. But a maintenance plan, you get our services, we come out either once or twice a year depending on the plan you choose, and also comes with perks like priority scheduling, discounted services. And so it kind of comes down to what type of homeowner are you looking to be? Someone that kind of just does the one-and-done, or are you trying to maintain your systems and catch problems before they actually become real problems. Your pros. >> [singing] [music]

We're going to talk about what a pro homeowner would do. Well, they would get their local professional Wow, that was great. They're going to get their local professional involved and give them a call. Call a shop that you like, know, and trust that has the receipts that says, "I am who I say I am." That they have a backing that shows, "Hey, we're going to be here long enough to service the warranty on this piece of equipment and long after." Call them out and say, "Hey, I want a maintenance."
